On Tuesday, Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, met Kristian Vigenin, Co-Chair of the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly, Head of the European Parliament Delegation to the Euronest PA.

 

The Parties discussed the prospects of the Assembly´s work, and various aspects of cooperation between Ukraine and the European Union.  

 

K.Vigenin laid emphasis on Ukraine´s role in the implementation of the parliamentary component of the Eastern Partnership initiative. "Euronest would not be launched, but for Ukraine," he stated.

 

In his turn, the Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine commented on the complicated process of negotiations before the launch of the Assembly. He stated that Ukraine would like the Euronest to yield feasible results as to the implementation of the EU-Ukraine visa free regime action plan, and agreements on the association and a free trade zone.     

 

The Head of the Parliament attaches great importance to the joint stance of the Ukrainian authorities on the European integration. V.Lytvyn believes that efficient cooperation between Ukraine and the EU will demonstrate European prospects of our state.

 

K.Vigenin assured V.Lytvyn that launch of the Assembly will form "a new type of policy" of the European Union concerning its eastern partners, changing the neighbourhood policy. "The East demands closer attention and more serious attitude," he stressed.

 

According to the Co-Chair of the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly, the European Parliament supports activization of Ukraine-EU relations in terms of visa-free regime. K.Vigenin stressed, "Ukraine will definitely become a part of the united Europe, but when the EU makes a respective decision is the other side of the question." "However, the more we work today, the sooner such a decision will be passed," he stressed.  

 

The Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine called for ‘drawing Ukraine into the European affairs´, as ‘positive results require actions instead of declarations.´  

 

As reported, the sitting of the Bureau of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania, Sejm and Senate of the Republic of Poland was held in Strasbourg today.
