Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, met Ural Muhamedjanov, Chairman of the Majlis of the Parliament of Kazakhstan, in Saint-Petersburg on Monday.

 

V.Lytvyn highly appreciates the level of relations between Ukraine and Kazakhstan, which received a powerful impetus in 2010 owing to the personal contacts between the Heads of States.

 

The Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine congratulated U.Muhamedjanov on successful holding of the early presidential elections on April 3, 2011. He stated that elections were transparent and democratic, which will make bilateral relations more stable and predictable.

 

V.Lytvyn declared that Ukraine was interested in further development of political dialogue with Kazakhstan. He invited the parliamentary delegation of Kazakhstan to make an official visit to Ukraine.   

 

The Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine thanked the Chairman of the Majlis of the Parliament of Kazakhstan for the participation in Kyiv Summit dedicated to the 25th anniversary of Chornobyl disaster, and Kazakhstan´s donation of EUR 2 million to the recovery projects. He reminded that nearly 30 thousand Kazakhs took part in the liquidation of the disaster, 7 thousand of which survived.  

 

"Ukraine looks forward to fostering economic cooperation with the former Soviet states" V.Lytvyn declared. "Ukraine attaches great importance to the implementation of the CIS Development Concept and its Implementation Action Plan."

 

The Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine called for boosting cooperation between the parliaments, parliamentary groups of friendship, and committees.

 

V.Lytvyn called for boosting cooperation in the agricultural sector. He deems necessary to tackle land issues in Ukraine. "It is important to shape the land market," he explained.   

 

Dwelling upon the cooperation in the international organizations, V.Lytvyn focused on the chairmanship of Kazakhstan over the OSCE.    

 

U.Muhamedjanov declared that Ukraine was a key partner of Kazakhstan in the economic and cultural spheres.

 

The Parties discussed celebration of the 200th anniversary of birth of T.H.Shevchenko in the year 2014.
