Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, supposes that commemorative events dedicated to the 150th anniversary of T.H. Shevchenko's reburial, which will be held in Ukraine and Russia, will consign to common history.

 

V.Lytvyn made the foregoing statement at the council of heads of the parliaments at the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the CIS Member Nations.

 

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine informed about the preparation of events dedicated to the 150th anniversary of T.H. Shevchenko's reburial.

 

Thus, the tour "Final Journey of T.H.Shevchenko" will take place on May 16-23 on route Saint Petersburg - Tver - Moscow - Tula - Orel - Sevsk - Hluhiv - Krolevets - Baturyn - Nizhyn - Brovary - Kyiv - Kaniv.

 

A trio of bandura-players "Chervona Kalyna" ("Red Cranberry") (Lviv), descendants of T.H.Shevchenko, participants of the first tour "Final Journey of T.H.Shevchenko" in 1991, Shevchenko scholars, People´s Deputies, and representatives of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine arrived from Kyiv yesterday.

 

"Today, the events with the participation of Ukrainian and Russian artists, scholars and general public are taking place near the monument to T.H.Shevchenko, in the eponymous square, and in the memorial workroom of T.H.Shevchenko at the museum of the Russian Academy of Arts," the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine informed.

 

Tomorrow, a requiem mass and a memorial service will be held at the Memorial Stone to T.H.Shevchenko on Smolenskyi cemetery in Saint-Petersburg. Shevchenko memorial evening will later take place in Tavria palace. The Head of the Parliament invited the heads and members of the delegation to attend these events.

 

On May 17, the delegation together with the artists and scholars from Russia, Kazakhstan and Ukraine will visit the places of residence of T.H.Shevchenko in Saint-Petersburg.

 

On May 18-21, deputies of the State Duma and the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, deputies of the Majilis of the Republic of Kazakhstan, deputies and employees of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, representatives of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the CIS Member Nations, scholars and artists will join the Ukrainian delegation, following the foregoing route, meet the officials, artists and public of respective cities, and lay flowers to the commemorative places, where the funeral procession with the body of the Great Kobzar stopped.  

 

On May 22, the prayer service will be held in the Church of Nativity of Christ in Podil district in Kyiv. After the service, the participants will go to Kanev to attend the requiem on Tarasova Mountain. They will also visit the museum of the Great Kobzar.   

 

"The scientific conference on life and work of T.H.Shevchenko will be held in Kyiv T.H. Shevchenko National University on May 23," V.Lytvyn informed. "The participants will lay flowers to the monument to T.H. Shevchenko in the eponymous park, and then exchange their views on the legacy of the Great Kobzar."   

 

The Head of the Ukrainian Parliament thanked the Council, the CIS IPA Secretariat, parliaments of the CIS member-nations, deputies of Russia, Kazakhstan, Ukraine and other CIS member states, governors, mayors and other participants of this cultural campaign.  

 

"It confirms that we understand how important it is to preserve, enrich and keep the legacy of enthusiasts of the past, as well as those who keep this memory in the complicated present times," V.Lytvyn declared.
