The Parties declared that effective and meaningful dialogue on the supreme level, and consistent work of the structural units of the Ukrainian-Russian Inter-State Commission had substantially improved the inter-state relations.

 

According to V.Lytvyn, current state of Ukrainian-Russian bilateral relations allows tackling topical issues of cooperation, and opens wide opportunities for their further development.  

 

The sides called for boosting the inter-parliamentary dialogue and Ukrainian-Russian regional cooperation to renew and establish new mutually beneficial economic ties. Along these lines, the Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine suggested holding a sitting of the Inter-Parliamentary Panel in one of the border regions with the participation of the regional deputies from both states.

 

He also attaches great importance to the participation of the legislative bodies of Ukraine and Russia in the inter-regional forums, including the Second Ukrainian-Russian Inter-Regional Economic Forum to be held under the patronage of Presidents of Ukraine and the Russian Federation in Donetsk region.  

 

The Parties stated that increase of trade turnover between the states proves that bilateral dialogue is effective. Thus, further to the results of the past three months, Ukraine is in the top three of the leading trade partners of the Russian Federation (after China and Germany). 

 

V.Lytvyn also called for strengthening legislative backing of the trade regime.

 

The Parties also recommend simplifying the border and customs control in the trains which cross the Ukrainian-Russian border.

 

Moreover, it is important to develop a modern comprehensive transport infrastructure, including high-speed rail communication between Kyiv and Moscow, to foster trade-economic and social relations.   

 

As reported, on May 15-16, Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, stays with a working visit in Saint-Petersburg to participate in the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the CIS Member Nations, International Scientific Conference dedicated to the 65th anniversary of Nuremberg Trials, IV Environmental Congress and events dedicated to the 150th anniversary of T.H. Shevchenko's reburial.

 

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine will also hold several bilateral meetings.

 

Ukrainian parliamentary delegation includes Ivan Vernydubov, Head of the Standing Delegation of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine in the CIS IPA, Chairman of the Sub-Committee of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on fighting Organized Crime and Corruption;  Oleksii Lohvynenko, Deputy Head of the Standing Delegation of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine in the CIS IPA, Chairman of the Sub-Committee of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Foreign Affairs; Serhii Hrynevetskyi, member of the Standing Delegation of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine in the CIS IPA, First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on the National Security and Defense; Ihor Yeresko, Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Economic Policy.
