Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, supposes that denunciation of "Kharkiv Treaties" is impossible, and treats this demand as an attempt to seize the political initiative.

"I understand why this issue has arisen in the form of recommendations. It is the continuation of political confrontation and fight," stated V.Lytvyn on Monday. "I treat it as an attempt to seize the political initiative."

The Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine stated, "Theoretically, such a resolution can be passed, provided a new gas agreement between Ukraine and the Russian Federation is signed." Then, the applicable gas agreement will cease to be in force. However, V.Lytvyn said, "We should count the price for gas as imported to Ukraine and the real consumer price, add 100 dollars to this sum, and find out whether the expectable denunciation of the treaty is feasible." "I believe that political rivalry will follow similar scenarios," he admitted.

"However, denunciation of "Kharkiv Treaties" is impossible without new talks, good will and a respective resolution," stressed the Head of the Parliament.
