Thursday, Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, attended
the session of Zhytomyr Regional Council, where the report on the regional
development in the year 2010 was read out, and the program of regional agrarian
sector development was ratified.
V.Lytvyn delivered a speech, stating that such regions of Ukraine as Zhytomyr region need special attention of the central authorities. Among the main issues of Zhytomyr region, Volodymyr Lytvyn singled out provision of gas supply, protection of soil, fulfillment of social obligations to the victims of Chornobyl disaster, and public health. The Head of the Parliament considers the health care of priority.
The Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine calls for rational distribution of funds that are going to be allotted to the regional development further to the results of the first quarter of 2011.
V.Lytvyn stated that the situation in Zhytomyr region is complicated, as its heads "used to hold real experiments with the region." He calls for supporting the agrarian sector of Zhytomyr region in part of flax growing, hop growing, and cattle breeding. The region should adopt climatic cropping pattern and farming system, supposes the Head of the Parliament. "Owing to the modern challenges, the funds should be given to seed and plant," stressed V.Lytvyn.
