University corporation shall become a moral authority and assume leadership mission. Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, made this statement in his speech for the students of Philosophy Faculty of University of Zagreb within his official visit to the Republic of Croatia.
"University corporation in the present stage of the global insecurity shall become a peculiar mediator, a moral authority to comprehend the situation and define the dimensions of humanity development, to determine our future life", the Head of the Parliament declared.
Taking into consideration the fact that meetings with students were held on T. Shevchenko´s birthday, V. Lytvyn reminded Kobzar´s words "study, think, read, learn all foreign though never keep yourself aloof from your native culture." Thus, the Head of the Verkhovna Rada declared that T. Shevchenko "beaconed how to preserve your own culture, being a global person."
In his speech V. Lytvyn paid special attention to the theme of political, spiritual and intellectual leadership. He believes that this issue requires thorough comprehension. "As soon as humanity faces certain problems, one person appears to assume leadership. It is another point, however, that one needs time to assess such a personality", he admitted.
The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada is convinced that under present conditions universities shall assume leadership mission "to determine the development directions for the humanity, define education features, preserve and support spiritual potential of mankind and all the traditions in society alongside with the inter-state dialogue." "I have always been of the opinion that universities should be the leaders of freedom, since it is the heart of democracy", he added.
After his speech, V. Lytvyn presented
honorary diplomas of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to
the Faculty of Philosophy Dean
of the University
of Zareb Damir Boras and
teacher of the Ukrainian Language
and Literature Department of the
Faculty of Philosophy Raisa Trostynetska.
The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine attended the grand opening of the exhibition "Ukrainian Embroidery and Folk Art" dedicated to the celebration of Shevchenko Days. V. Lytvyn declared that the exhibition "helps to reveal soul, heart, history and traditions of the Ukrainian people." "Understanding of people´s soul helps evaluate the present situation and predict future. I believe in our nation and its future, I believe that the relations between our states will facilitate reunion of Europe and prosperity of our countries."
During the grand opening ceremony of the lecture hall named after T. Shevchenko, the Head of the Ukrainian Parliament suggested undertaking an internship in the Committees of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, and wished them "to exert efforts to make it possible." V. Lytvyn believes that young people shall act according to the principle "I am a leader, I am sure to achieve high results." He is convinced that an individual can bring to life their own dreams only forging ahead.
