Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, believes that there is a good reason to boost parliamentary cooperation between the legislatures of Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova.

V.M.Lytvyn made this statement, meeting Ion Stavila, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Moldova to Ukraine.

The Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine declared that bilateral inter-parliamentary dialogue had recently been idle due to particular factors. He stated the willingness of the Ukrainian Parliament to develop systemic inter-parliamentary component of bilateral relations.

V.Lytvyn singled out several topical issues such as completion of the state border demarcation, acknowledgement of the right to property constructed in the territory of Ukraine and Moldova in the USSR period, implementation of international commitments of Moldova as to transfer of the land plot in the vicinity of Palanka township into the ownership of Ukraine.

The Head of the Parliament called for analyzing the problematic issues of the bilateral relations. He expects the parliaments to play a crucial role in their settlement.

V.Lytvyn reminded that in autumn 2009 he suggested that the Head of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova visited Ukraine at any convenient time, which should give impetus to the bilateral relations.  He supposes that a new Agreement on the Inter-Parliamentary Liaison could be signed during the visit, as the relations are currently developing on the basis of the outdated Agreement of 1995.

The parties called for developing an inter-parliamentary component of relations between the subject committees, panels and groups of friendship.

The Ambassador informed about the initiative of the Head of the Commission of the Parliament of Moldova on Foreign Policy and European Integration concerning meeting of the heads of committees and panels of the parliaments of Moldova and Ukraine in charge of international affairs in April, 2011.

He agreed to the suggestion of V.Lytvyn concerning boosting of the inter-state dialogue. Ion Stavila stated that settlement of the most sensitive issues in the Ukrainian-Moldavian relations will give impetus to the trade-economic cooperation.

The Parties also discussed cooperation within the international parliamentary forums such as PABSEC.
