The meeting was
held within the visit of the Lithuanian delegation to Ukraine on April 12-14,
2011. The Parties discussed bilateral cooperation in the military and
environmental sectors, and the issue of gender equality. Lithuanian Defense
Minister Rasa Juknevičienė stated that
Lithuanian Parliament has 20% of women, while the military sector employs 11%. Supreme
offices of Lithuanian President and Speaker are also held by women: Dalia Grybauskaitė and Irena
Degutienė respectively.
Members of the Lithuanian delegation shared the positive experience of cooperation between the armed forces and NATO. During this visit, cooperation between Lithuania and Ukraine in the security and defense sectors should be fostered. The Parties also talked over the inter-state cooperation in the energy sector.
Lithuanian Defense Minister stated that Ukraine had always been an important partner for Lithuania. As the Head of Ukraine-Lithuania Group of Friendship, Olha Bodnar focused on the long-lasting relations between the states. She expects further fruitful cooperation in the sphere of law-making.
