Ukraine attaches great importance to the content of the European Union Association Agreement and Free Trade Zone Agreement, not to the date of their adoption. Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, made this statement at the briefing after the 4th Meeting of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania, Sejm and Senate of the Republic of Poland.
The Head of the Parliament stressed that the content of these documents should be based on the common interests of both Ukraine and the European Union. He hopes for the completion of work "on the most sensitive issues related to the quality of agricultural production, as the capacities of Ukraine should not be neglected." The Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine informed about the ongoing discussions of this matter.
"We expect the Association Agreement to have a great impact for both Ukraine and the European Union," stressed V.Lytvyn. "It is of vital importance for our state to have the European prospects fixed in this act."
Bogdan Borusewicz, Marshal of the Senate of the Republic of Poland, was asked to assess the chances of Ukraine for the European Union association. He appreciated the state of respective negotiations between Ukraine and the EU. "We would like this Agreement to be signed during Poland´s EU chairmanship, although different conditions, the rate of negotiations and Ukraine itself are the key factors," stated B. Borusewicz.
Speaker of Seimas of the Lithuanian Republic Irene Degutienė stated that this Agreement "is essential for both Ukraine and Europe, so the mutual benefits should be considered."
