Visiting Cherkasy region on Friday, Mykola Tomenko, Deputy Chairman, together with Ihor Yeresko, People's Deputy of Ukraine, met businessmen of the market in Zolotonosha town at the request of the local business community.
The participants of the meeting informed M. Tomenko and I. Yeresko that this market (3 Obuhova Str.) had been located at the same place for more than 100 years, while several years ago it was turned into a modern indoor market at the expense of market employees (cost of the repairs totaled UAH 10 million). However, the local authorities are trying to liquidate the market and find another place for it. According to the businessmen, mayor of Zolotonosha has his interests in the local alcohol business, and together with the relatives of regional administration leaders might be planning to build a huge private liquor store in the place of the market.
Given the complicated situation and the fact that nearly one thousand businessmen are employed at the market, the public hearings on this situation were held on March 12. According to the market personnel, there was also an attempt of arson to provoke closing of the market.
The Deputy Chairman of the Parliament informed the entrepreneurs that actions of the local authorities are illegal, as closing the working market that employs a thousand of citizens is groundless.
M. Tomenko stated that together with his colleague he would follow the situation and exert efforts to prevent illegal liquidation of market and dismissal of citizens.
M. Tomenko will also report on this situation and actions of the local authorities to the President of Ukraine and the Prosecutor General.
