Serhii Shevchuk, member of the Ukrainian delegation, took floor at the sitting of the Second General Committee on Economic Affairs, Science, Technology and Environment. The topic of his speech was "Increasing Efficiency of the OSCE by the Results of the Summit in Astana in 2010."
S. Shevchuk focused on the role of the OSCE after the Summit in Astana. He called for strengthening cooperation between the Parliamentary Assembly and the OSCE Ministerial Council. He suggested strengthening control over the implementation of resolutions of the Parliamentary Assembly in the national parliaments of OSCE PA member states to foster effective cooperation on the international policy issues.
The reporter dwelled upon the energy policy, environmental issues, migration, advance technologies and science, and cyber security.
S. Shevchuk stated, "These issues are essential, and require a scientific approach and modern engineering, financial, and political technologies."
The delegates highly appreciated the report of S. Shevchuk at the sitting of the Second General Committee, which contributes to the forthcoming resolution to be scrutinized at the 20th Annual Summer Session of OSCE PA in Belgrade (Serbia) in July, 2011.
