On Wednesday, Mykola Tomenko, Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, took part in Chas Pik program on Era-Fm radio. Discussing the situation in the Ukrainian capital, he reminded that as early as in 2006 he focused on the problematic situation in Kyiv, where several families (of Chernovetskyi, Dovhyi, Suprunenko, Komarnytskyi and others) totally controlled the situation in Kyiv, which is legally qualified as 'political corruption.' M. Tomenko also reminded that after the said speech, a suit was filed against him. However, the Supreme Court of Ukraine found it in favor of M. Tomenko after four years of legal proceedings.
Discussing the current situation, M. Tomenko stressed that in four years of the said events, "it has finally been confirmed that Kyiv was plundered by the families mentioned."
Mykola Tomenko dwelled upon the possible solution of this problem. He calls for taking drastic action. "We are aware of the fact that Kyiv could not have been plundered by Leonid Chernovetskyi only. It was also plundered by the Secretary of Kyiv Council, the majority of Kyiv Council, and other people", he stated.
According to the Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, Kyiv mayor and Kyiv Council shall be re-elected, as the latter is also responsible for the disorder in the capital. M. Tomenko reminded that he had registered the Resolution on Early Elections of Kyiv City Council and Kyiv Mayor, however, it was not upheld by the majority. According to the Deputy Chairman, it might be explained by the fact that the Party of Regions is afraid of elections, having no powerful candidate for the mayoral office and given the low rating of the party.
M. Tomenko calls for taking radical measures: Kyiv authorities shall be dismissed and re-elected. Still, he assumes that a new majority might be formed in Kyiv, while the authorities might try to create an image of order in the capital to appoint their candidate for the office after the scheduled elections.
