Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine: The Coming Half -Year will be not only Essential but even Decisive for Ukraine"
Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine emphasizes that the coming half -year "will be not only essential but also decisive for Ukraine."
In the interview to "Rada" TV channel on Friday, V. Lytvyn stated that Ukraine is on the eve of the 20th anniversary of independence, which "is a rather critical period for any developing state." He compared construction of ‘a state house´ with the construction of any building. "As it is known, interior of any building requires more time, determination and energy than its framing", the Head of the Parliament stated. "Reserves and resources accumulated by the previous generations are exhausted, while we consider Ukraine as an independent state that shall develop and rely on its own forces."
According to the Head of the Parliament, people have paid a big price for the independence, first of all, in the social-economic aspect: "A sovereign state was created at the expense of people." He stated that the country was overstrained, which, unfortunately, coincided with the global processes, when the economic system determining the world development was destroyed.
V. Lytvyn stated, "Currently, the citizens can not cope with their problems without state assistance." Thus, "the authorities shall act, bearing in mind that their work influences all the Ukrainian citizens", he stressed.
V. Lytvyn stated, "Ukraine should declare itself as a respectable player and stop demonstrating its provincial character on the world scene." Volodymyr Lytvyn believes that it requires a lasting constructive dialogue. "I have been calling for the organization of the round table discussion, when the authorities withdraw their claims to the opposition and vice versa", he explained.
V. Lytvyn confessed that he has made "some emotional mistake at the opening session, declaring that criticizing is "a slavish habit." He explained that "these words belong to one of the American presidents, but they can not be applied to the present situation in Ukraine." "I support sound criticism", V. Lytvyn admitted.
The Head of the Parliament stated that there is a lot of work for the current session. The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine shall scrutinize thousands of issues and herewith, the Government, the President of Ukraine and People´s Deputies submit 5-7 new bills daily. "This session will determine the further development of Ukraine: either we will go straight forward and achieve positive changes and results, or we move back. The second variant is inadmissible; we do not have a reverse gear. We shall go straight forward and cease the political war in the state", V. Lytvyn stated.
