Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine: Experts shall draft the Amendments to the Constitution, while Politicians shall discuss them and reach a Compromise
Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine calls for establishing a constitutional assembly or a constitutional commission to draft the amendments to the Constitution of Ukraine. He made this statement at the press conference in Novohrad-Volynskyi on Tuesday.
"I do not suppose that politicians should draft the Constitution or amendments to it. Experts shall prepare a draft, while politicians shall discuss them and reach a compromise," V.Lytvyn stressed. He believes that the name of the body a constitutional assembly or a constitutional commission is irrelevant: "A commission involving respectable unbiased people will benefit the country, while its name is merely a play on words." "The very idea is worthy," the Head of the Parliament declared.
V.Lytvyn deems necessary to consider Ukrainian traditions and history while drafting the amendments to the Constitution.
