Chernihiv region celebrated the 120th anniversary of birth of Pavlo Tychyna.

On Thursday, 27 January, Mykola Tomenko, Deputy Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, together with Serhii Halchenko, Deputy Director of the Institute of Literature, and Tetiana Sosnovska, Director of the Literary-Memorial Estate of Pavlo Tychyna in Kyiv, attended the celebration of the 120th anniversary of birth of Pavlo Tychyna in the poet´s native village Pisky in Bobrovytsia district of Chernihiv region.

M.Tomenko admitted that it becomes a tradition that the acting authorities fail to tackle the humanitarian issues and the Ukrainian customs, while the public takes over the obligation of honouring and promoting historical cultural heritage. The Deputy Chairman stated that celebration of the 120th anniversary of birth of Pavlo Tychyna met the abovementioned trend.

The Deputy Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine believes that "Pavlo Tychyna as one of the most prominent lyricists, not a party worker and Soviet figure" should make a comeback to the system of present-day education of Ukraine. The heroes of the Battle of Kruty will be commemorated two days after the 120th anniversary of birth of Pavlo Tychyna. The Deputy Chairman reminded that P.Tychyna´s poem "Thirty Ukrainian martyrs, young and bold..." is considered as a hymn of this heroic and tragic deed.

M.Tomenko visited the memorial museum of the poet and the school named after Pavlo Tychyna. Deputy Chairman M.Tomenko and People´s Deputy V.Dubil presented the school library with the books, CDs, a video projector, and an audio center.
