Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of The
Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, highly appreciates the work of the Inter-Parliamentary
Assembly of Ukraine and the Republic of Poland, and calls for extending the opportunities
offered by this institute.
Speaking at the opening of the 5th meeting of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of Ukraine and the Republic of Poland, V.Lytvyn declared that the Assembly had approved itself as a practical institutional tool of Ukrainian-Polish relations. "In the system of bilateral relations, this channel of dialogue not merely complements the full-fledged network of communication institutes between the Presidents, the governments, and national security agencies of Ukraine and Poland. The Inter-Parliamentary Assembly has turned into the most democratic and informal, the least bureaucratic channel of communication and recommendation-making for the benefit of the bilateral relations," he stressed.
V.Lytvyn calls for extending the opportunities offered by the institute of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly. The Head of the Ukrainian Parliament deems necessary to enhance its role in the settlement of tasks related to the further integration of the European Union, where Poland lays claims for the decent role. Ukraine occupies a conspicuous place in the policy of the Eastern Partnership. V.Lytvyn also deems necessary to consider the process of rapprochement between Ukraine and Poland.
According to the Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the Assembly could benefit from its efficiency and goal-orientation, if it streamlined its structure and set up the standing working groups and panels in charge of long-term planning of the Assembly work and legislative support of economic and humanitarian aspects of Ukrainian-Polish cooperation. "Considering the importance and value of Ukrainian-Polish relations for the entire Europe, I would assume that the Assembly could redouble the intensity of its work," he stressed.
V.Lytvyn supposes that Poland´s presidency over the European Union in the second half of 2011, Ukraine´s chairmanship over the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe since May 2011, and over the OSCE in the year 2013, as well as common responsibility for the holding of the European Football Championship "will demand that our countries demonstrate leadership in the European affairs, international organizations, and preparation of the all-European sports megaproject." This situation also requires a greater coordination of common efforts at the inter-parliamentary level.
