Meeting the journalists in Zhytomyr on Thursday, Mykola Tomenko, Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, reported on the work of his Fund "Ridna Kraina" concerning promotion of prominent Ukrainians, and presented a business diary for Ukrainians "Ukrainian Yearbook."
M. Tomenko regretted that the Verkhovna Rada failed to adopt the only resolution to determine strategic activity of social Ministries as to the most important anniversaries and memorable dates for 2011. One of the reasons that such document has not been passed is a great difference in the evaluation of the Ukrainian history by the parliamentary majority and opposition.
The Deputy Chairman of the Ukrainian Parliament considers it positive that the Deputies managed to pass the Resolution "On Celebration of the 140th Anniversary of Birth of Lesia Ukrainka, Prominent Ukrainian Poetess and Public Figure" (February 25), (authors A. Martyniuk, M. Tomenko). "Thus, we have managed to convince the authorities and mass media to commemorate a prominent and highly talented woman", he stressed. Mykola Tomenko stated that although celebration will be held in several regions of Ukraine, the government and the local authorities are not going to carry out the resolution concerning financial assistance of repair works in the museums of the poetess.
M. Tomenko presented motanky-dolls made by famous specialist N. Sizyryniuk according to the exclusive ornaments of Lesia Ukrainka´s mother Olena Pchilka to the Literature-Memorial Museum of Lesia Ukrainka in Novohrad-Volynskyi town.
