Volodymyr Lytvyn: High-Quality Education is the Top Task of Ukraine
On Friday, Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, greeted the winners of XIII
National Contest of School Newspapers
organized by the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine, the National Academy
of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine, the Association of Young Journalists of
Ukraine, and Mykolaiv College of Press and Television.
"Having established this contest in the year 1997, the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine did a good deed, attracting pupils to the socially important, public activity," V.Lytvyn stated. "Such contests form the personality of young people, and serve as another opportunity to learn, especially in the information sphere," he declared, "We need a high-quality journalism to make people think and make conclusions."
The Head of the Parliament stressed, "A high-quality education is the top task of Ukraine. Next generations will be successful, if they are well-educated." He regretted about the low standards of higher education, and the unregulated situation in the fee-based education sector.
V.Lytvyn reminded that in 1997,
there were only 50 contestants, while this year almost three
thousand participants competed. He assured his support of other initiatives of
the organizers and contestants, and wished the contest to move to the international
level.
