On Tuesday, Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, met PACE President Mevlüt
Çavusoglu in Istanbul within his
official visit to the Republic of Turkey.
The Head of the Ukrainian Parliament expressed his gratitude to M. Çavusoglu for the ongoing dialogue. He noted that it was the fifth meeting of the recent period. "We highly appreciate your personal contribution into the consolidation of relations between Turkey and Ukraine, as well as the efforts to breathe new life into PACE," V.Lytvyn stressed. He drew attention to the dynamic work of the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly during the presidency of M. Çavusoglu.
"In my opinion, PACE stepped out of the shade of the European Parliament, which is fairly thematic, as the Council of Europe and its parliamentary component represent a united Europe," V.Lytvyn stated.
In April, Ukraine takes over the presidency in the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe. According to V.Lytvyn, it plans to consolidate and develop the achievements of Turkey in this respect. The Head of the Ukrainian Parliament stressed that the coming presidency of Ukraine in the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe spurs it on the rapid fulfillment of the commitments to the Council of Europe in part of the necessary legislative decisions. He expects Ukraine to enter a post-monitoring stage, as "we have treated the PACE recommendations seriously and responsibly."
In his turn PACE President conveyed his willingness to support the initiatives of Ukraine. "As the PACE President and a deputy of a friendly state, I declare my willingness to support all the initiatives of Ukraine," he stated.
M. Çavusoglu attaches great importance to the role of Ukraine in the parliamentary activity of the Council of Europe. He is satisfied with the work of the Ukrainian delegation in PACE. On behalf of the Council of Europe and PACE, he expressed his support "to the reforms in Ukraine, as Ukraine has finally established political sustainability and stability in the Parliament."
He stated, "We wish that monitoring were lifted from Ukraine as soon as possible."
M. Çavusoglu is convinced that the Ukrainian-Turkish relations will enter a new stage of development after the official visit of the parliamentary delegation of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
