The goal of the Tenth Winter Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe is to discuss implementation of the resolutions and decisions of the Assembly and hold debates in three subject committees: on Political Affairs and Security; on Economic Affairs, Science, Technology and Environment; on Democracy, Human Rights and Humanitarian Questions.
Standing Delegation of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine is headed by Oleksandr Peklushenko, Chairman of the Committee on Finance and Banking, Deputy Head of the Standing Delegation. Members of the Standing Delegation will discuss the following matters: immigration, integration and multi-ethnic dialogue in the OSCE, priorities of Lithuanian chairmanship over the OSCE, situation in the Republic of Belarus, situation in the Mediterranean region in light of events in Egypt, Tunisia and elsewhere.
Oleksandr Peklushenko, Chairman of the Committee on Finance and Banking, Deputy Head of the Standing Delegation, took the floor during the general debates on the situation in the Republic of Belarus at the sitting of the Committee on Democracy, Human Rights and Humanitarian Questions.
Member of the Ukrainian Standing Delegation Oleksandr Stoian declared that Ukraine appreciated preparations for the elections of the President of the Republic of Belarus. However, he admitted that resolutions of the European Union and the USA "concerning restrictions for the Republic of Belarus became a result of disproportional application of force to the members of opposition after the presidential elections."
For reference: At least 240 parliament members from 53 registered countries of Europe and North America, as well as representatives of associated countries, international organization and Mediterranean partners of the OSCE are taking part in the Session.
