Mykola Tomenko: Crimean Authorities are not Ready to celebrate the 140th Anniversary of Birth of Lesia Ukrainka at the Appropriate Level

Mykola Tomenko, Deputy Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, addressed the President of Ukraine with a request to intrude into the situation concerning implementation of the Resolution "On Celebration of the 140th Anniversary of Birth of Lesia Ukrainka, Prominent Ukrainian Poetess and Public Figure."

The Deputy Chairman reminded that The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine had adopted the Resolution "On Celebration of the 140th Anniversary of Birth of Lesia Ukrainka, Prominent Ukrainian Poetess and Public Figure." However, renovation works in the museum of Lesia Ukrainka in Yalta have not started yet, notwithstanding the forthcoming anniversary (February 25, 2011).

According to M.Tomenko, the response of V. Dzharty, Head of the Council of Ministers of the Crimean Autonomous Republic, implies that the Crimean authorities refuse to make a repair in the museum at the expanse of the local budget. Moreover, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine failed to include the necessary funds into the State Budget either for the year 2010 or 2011.

The Deputy Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine informed that the building of Lesia Ukrainka museum in Yalta had been constructed in the year 1886, while some random repairs were made in 1985. Lately, the floor structure has fallen into disrepair, so several rooms of the museum have been closed for the victors.

"The 20th anniversary of Ukraine´s independence demonstrates a pitiful trend, when the anniversaries of the symbolic personalities are passing neglected," M.Tomenko stated.
