Hasty Implementation of Higher Education Reform is Inadmissible!
Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, considers hasty implementation of higher education reform inadmissible. The Head of the Ukrainian Parliament made this statement, meeting the journalists in Novohrad-Volynskyi on Tuesday.
V. Lytvyn is convinced that changes in the system are inevitable, although "a thoroughly considered approach should be employed to meet current traditions and standards in the education system." "I consider haste to be inadmissible in this case", he emphasized.
The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada stated that amendments to the Law on higher education should consider the interests of all the participants of educational process. "The Law on Education shall be drafted neither exclusively for the Ministry nor for the education management bodies and administration of higher education establishments. It should be a Law for all the participants of the process", he explained.
V. Lytvyn stressed that the students´ protests against the new version of the Law on Higher Education proved that young people cared about this issue. He announced that the open sitting of the parliamentary committee on science and education will be held on February 16 to discuss the new version of the Law.
