Mykola Tomenko: The Speech of the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine confirms that the Law Enforcement Bodies have always protected the Rights and Freedoms of the Authorities, neglecting the Human and Civil Rights and Freedoms

At the briefing on Friday, Mykola Tomenko, Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, stated that the speech of the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine confirmed that the law enforcement bodies had always protected the rights and freedoms of the authorities, neglecting the human and civil rights and freedoms.

According to M. Tomenko, a popular evaluation of citizen´s rights protection is the number of cars in the cortege of the state leaders and the period of time when the streets are closed. He mentioned that the number of cars in cortege had considerably increased, as well as the time of streets being closed. Thus, he claimed, "There is protection of human rights concerning the authorities and the protection of human rights concerning ordinary public."

Mykola Tomenko condemned declaration of the Minister of Internal Affairs concerning bloodshed that had been expected on the Day of Reunion of Ukraine. "I am convinced that ministers shall prevent provocations, not make them. If he has incontroverted evidences of someone preparing bloodshed, he should have appealed to the Prosecutor General of Ukraine instead of delivering speeches in the Parliament and making a turmoil in the society", he stated.

Summing up, the Deputy Chairman stated that the law enforcement bodies were eager to protect the rights and freedoms of the authorities, neglecting the human and civil rights and freedoms.
