At the today´s program on Era Radio, Mykola Tomenko, Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, declared that competence and independence should be the main characteristics of the head of the National Bank of Ukraine. However, he claims that the preliminary analysis of the materials on the candidate for this office that were sent to the Verkhovna Rada by the President of Ukraine attests to neither of these characteristics.

The Deputy Chairman announced that according to the personal data, Serhii Arbuzov, 34 years old, used to be the head of a small bank of the local level in Donetsk region and has been working for two months as a state official. Furthermore, the information that is being actively discussed in mass media claims that S. Arbuzov is a close friend of the President´s family, which gives rise to the serious concern whether "he would be able to show two main characteristics: competence and independence."

"Finally, the National bank shall be headed by an experienced, competent and independent individual", the Deputy Chairman emphasised. "There are no reasons why S. Arbuzov should be appointed to this office except the fact that he is a friend of the President´s family." "The price for the financial stability of Ukraine is too high ", he added.

M. Tomenko is convinced that the majority of the Verkhovna Rada would support the decision of the President.
