Mykola Tomenko: The Authorities have decided that the Constitution shall be observed in the Day, but can be grossly violated at Night

Mykola Tomenko, Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, is convinced that removal of the tent camp in Maidan Nezalezhnosti square at night is not only the disrespect for human rights, the Constitution and the Laws, but the disrespect for the citizens of Ukraine. He reminded that several hours ago, the First Deputy Head of the Administration of the President of Ukraine stressed that the President of Ukraine was guided in his activity by the observance of the Constitution and the presumption on innocence, protection of civil rights and liberties. "Nevertheless, at night, not only was the tent camp removed, but even personal belongings and equipment were destroyed", M. Tomenko stressed.

The Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine announced that the opposition would appeal to the General Prosecutor´s Office to call to the account the persons involved in this crime against the civil rights and liberties.

The Deputy Chairman declared, "The authorities seemingly suggest a new method of interpreting the Constitution: it shall be observed in the day, but at night it can be grossly violated." "People would soon be afraid to go out at night, as the police (on the order of the authorities) will have the right not only to liquidate the protests actions, but also to arrest people they dislike", the Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine stated.
