Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, believes that preliminary adoption of amendments to the Constitution of Ukraine regarding the conduction of regular elections to the Verkhovna Rada of the Autonomous Republic of the Crimea, local councils and village, township and city mayors should prevent further debates as to the date of parliamentary elections.
On Friday, V.Lytvyn gave an interview to Rada television channel. He stated that the fact that 305 People´s Deputies supported the bill "confirms the necessity to stop any talks about the date of elections, as it is clearly fixed by the draft, and focus on adoption of the complex, but essential resolution, such as the State Budget for 2011."
The Head of the Parliament has repeatedly emphasized that the laws have no retroactive force. He reminded that the Verkhovna Rada of the current convocation had been elected for five years in 2007. V.Lytvyn admitted that lawyers and politicians could debate the date of elections, but "it should not dominate the public life."
