Volodymyr Lytvyn: Ukraine and the Syrian Arab Republic shall cooperate in the Spheres of High Technologies, First of All.
V.M. Lytvyn, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, on Friday met Bashar al-Assad, the President of the Syrian Arab Republic.
The participants of the meeting discussed the issues of the trade-economic and cultural-educational cooperation and strengthening of the relations within the parliamentary level of both states.
V. Lytvyn expressed hope that this visit "would open new page in the relations between both states and nations." He emphasised the necessity to strengthen the parliamentary part in the relations between Ukraine and Syria.
The Head of the Ukrainian parliament stated that it is necessary to improve work of the committees, friendship groups and interparliamentary organizations for "the agreements we have reaches with the president of Ukraine are implemented."
The President of the Syrian Arab Republic Bashar al-Assad in his turn stressed "great importance" of this visit due to the several factors. First of all, according to him, "the historical aspect of the cooperation between the states is extremely essential due to the numerous mixed families and big Ukrainian diaspora in Syria." This fact requires considerable development of the relations in cultural, educational and scientific spheres.
He deems the geographic situation of Ukraine quite attractive as "it borders not only with the EU countries but also with Russian Federation." The third important aspect according to Bashar al-Assad is the great development level of high technologies in our state.
The President of the Syrian Arab Republic announced that the issue on visa free regime with Ukraine and Syria was being discussed. He is convinced that it would increase the quantity of flights, thus it facilitate the development of the tourism and business.
Bashar al-Assad, the President of the Syrian Arab Republic, invited Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, to visit the Syrian Arab Republic soon and suggested exchange of the parliamentary delegations.
V. Lytvyn agreed with the necessity to develop cultural and national relations. "It should be done for the citizens living in Syria, students that have been studying in Ukraine and our history", V. Lytvyn explained. Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada suggested the exchange of the youth international organizations. The Head of the Parliament expressed gratitude to the President of the Syrian Arab Republic for the positive evaluation of the inner situation in Ukraine. V. Lytvyn is convinced that "there is stability in the state and the state power is consolidated, there are all opportunities for the dialogue in the society and adoption of the responsible decisions." He gave an example regarding the adoption of the Tax Code. "Someone deems it weakness search compromises with the society, though the authority showed its strong side that is able to correct some points at issue", V. Lytvyn declared.
V. Lytvyn upheld propositions on cooperation in the spheres "that make our future, I mean the spheres of high technologies." He is convinced that there are a lot of opportunities for the cooperation in cultural, educational, scientific and cultural spheres. The Head of the Parliament stated that Ukraine could cooperation with Syria in military-technical sphere.
V. Lytvyn assured the President of Syria in efficient
scrutiny of a number of necessary documents that were drafted by the states and
ratification of the agreements.
Bashar al-Assad declared that Ukraine experienced the vest stage of its development since the Independence Day and emphasised: "Strengthening and improvement of the contacts with the foreign states would have positive impact on the internal situation in the state."
