Mykola Tomenko: Ukraine will have a Historical-Tourist Route representing all Cossack Hosts

On Saturday, Mykola Tomenko, Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, visited Dnipropetrovsk city, Nikopol town and Nikopol district on the occasion of the 155th  anniversary of a prominent scholar Dmytro Yavornytskyi. Together with the newly-elected Head of Nikopol Ruslan Tokar and the Director of Khortytsia National Reserve Maksym Ostapenko, Mykola Tomenko visited Nikopol and Nikopol district, where 5 Cossack hosts were situated to discuss renovation of a new route to unite all the Cossack hosts in the territory of Ukraine.

 

M. Tomenko emphasised that the unique history of Cossacks period was represented in Zaporizhska Sich. "I am proud that we managed to build the historical-cultural complex "Zaporizhska Sich" in Khortytsia, however, it is only the first step to show the unique phenomenon of democracy in Cossacks republic ", he stated.

 

"We have discussed the issue of the restorational works in the territory of the historical places connected with the Cossack hosts situated in the territory of Nikopol and its district to develop a route that would give an opportunity to feel the atmosphere of the Cossacks period in the territory of Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions."

 

At the press conference on Saturday, R. Tokar declared that the image of Nikopol as a capital of Cossack settlements, where Bohdan Khmelnytskyi started his national liberation movement, was among the projects he planned to implement in the office of the mayor. In his turn, Director of Khortytsia National Reserve Maksym Ostapenko emphasised that Khortytsia was ready to share its experience to develop a new route to unite all the Cossack hosts in the territory of Ukraine.
