On Tuesday, Volodymyr Lytvyn,
Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine,
met Bogdan Borusewicz, Marshal of the Senate of the Republic of Poland, who is staying with a working visit in Ukraine.
In the beginning of the meeting, the Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine declared that the visit of the Marshal of the Senate "will foster bilateral cooperation between the countries."
The Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine stated that Ukrainian-Polish inter-parliamentary relations confirmed the strategic dimension of the bilateral cooperation. "We highly appreciate the level of the bilateral dialogue, as well as the Poland´s support of the European integration pursuit of Ukraine," V.Lytvyn declared. Ukraine was said to lay great hopes on the Poland´s presidency in the European Union in the second half of the year 2011.
V.Lytvyn considers the year 2011 as "a decisive, responsible and favourable year for Ukraine to specify its relations with the European Union", given the presidency of Hungary in the first half of the coming year, and the presidency of Poland in the second half. "Both countries understand us well," he stated. He expects Ukraine and the EU to sign the agreements on association and a free trade zone during the presidency of Poland.
The Head of the Ukrainian Parliament stated that Ukraine is ready to implement the Visa Free Regime Action Plan in part of adoption and realization of respective laws.
V.Lytvyn attaches great importance to the coming year in part of implementation of comprehensive sustainable reforms, which requires public and political dialogue and consensus. He stressed, "European orientation does not provoke any political arguments and has a positive public response."
B. Borusewicz assured that his country would assist European integration pursuit of Ukraine, in particular, facilitating conclusion of the mentioned agreements during the presidency of Poland in the EU. According to the Marshal of the Senate, Poland is also interested in the introduction of a visa-free regime with the EU member countries, and welcomes signing of the respective Action Plan.
B.Borusewicz believes that implementation of the agreement on small cross-border movement between Ukraine and Poland "will become an extra argument for introducing a visa-free regime."
B.Borusewicz declared that Polish parliament members are willing to share the European integration experience, since both the Polish ruling coalition and the opposition believe that cooperation with Ukraine is essential.
The Parties called for the development of bilateral and multilateral
inter-parliamentary liaison.
V.Lytvyn and B.Borusewicz highly appreciated the work of Ukraine-Poland bilateral inter-parliamentary assembly and Ukraine-Lithuania-Poland trilateral inter-parliamentary assembly. "I hope that the
parliamentary dialogue will allow us to move to the popular democracy,
interaction between the nations," the Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine stated.
Discussing cooperation in the humanitarian sector, V.Lytvyn and B.Borusewicz called for signing the Agreement on the establishment of a Ukrainian-Polish European Eastern University, which should bring closer the nations, the youth and the academic communities.
The Parties initiated commemorating "the Righteous among the Nations" in the bordering regions, the location of active movement for the collaborative rescue of Ukrainian and Polish people.
V.Lytvyn and B.Borusewicz discussed organization and holding of the Final Part of the European Football Championship EURO-2012. "EURO-2012 should become a festival of humanism, kindness and culture," V.Lytvyn declared.
The Parties debated several events within the Championship. They called for involving the specialized parliamentary committees into their organization. V.Lytvyn suggested that this matter should be put on the agenda of the forthcoming sitting of Ukraine-Poland inter-parliamentary assembly.
