On Wednesday, Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, met Mehmet Ali Şahin, Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey.

 

The Parties discussed the state and prospects of Ukrainian-Turkish relations.

 

Mehmet Ali Şahin appreciated that Ukraine reached political stability and formed a new government, which was of great importance for the development of cooperation. "Our parliaments will have to provide legislative support of Ukrainian-Turkish relations," he stated.  

 

In his turn, V.Lytvyn assured, "We exert every effort to make Ukraine stable and predictable."

 

The Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey puts high hopes on the official visit of V.Lytvyn scheduled for the beginning of the next year. The visit is expected to give impetus to the development of relations between the countries and the parliaments.

 

Mehmet Ali Şahin greeted V.Lytvyn on Ukraine´s taking over the chairmanship in PABSEC. He believes that this period will be beneficial for the organization.

 

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine emphasized that "dynamic development of such an authoritative organization as PABSEC" was largely dependent on the efforts of his Turkish counterpart.

 

He highly appreciated the level of Ukrainian-Turkish relations, admitting the potential of bilateral relations. V.Lytvyn expects that the visit of Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan will foster strategic partnership. "The parliaments will also have to make a significant contribution," he admitted.  

 

V.Lytvyn calls for boosting inter-parliamentary cooperation between the friendship groups, committees and factions.  

 

According to the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, having reached political consensus, Ukraine and Turkey will be able to closely collaborate in economic and humanitarian sectors.    

 

Mehmet Ali Şahin drew attention that trade turnover between the countries reached its record of USD 8,2 billion last year, although recession bore a negative influence on the economic cooperation. "Boosting bilateral cooperation, we should come back to these figures at least," he declared.

 

V.Lytvyn attaches great importance to the cooperation in the sector of high technologies and scientific production.

 

As reported, on November 3, Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, visits the Republic of Turkey to participate in the 36th Plenary Session of the General Assembly of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation.

 

During the Plenary Session, V.Lytvyn took over chairmanship in PABSEC from Turkey.
