Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, believes that the Opposition is looking for Pretexts to aggravate Political Conflicts in the Country

At the briefing in the Parliament, V.Lytvyn stated that Wednesday´s agenda of the Verkhovna Rada included all the issues suggested by the opposition factions. "Everything related to the proposals of the opposition has been fulfilled," he stressed.

V.Lytvyn named several bills and resolutions drafted by the opposition members. Notwithstanding that specialized committees failed to submit conclusions on several acts, he insisted that these documents be put on the agenda.

As the Head of the Parliament reminded, at the Conciliative Council he suggested observing the lasting tradition that members of the non-majority factions can compile the agenda on Wednesday, invite the government members to the Parliament and form the list of questions to the Cabinet of Ministers for the Government Question Hour.

V.Lytvyn also suggested that the opposition be given the floor to express their standpoint ‘on the issues of national importance.´ He also called for observing the "status-quo in committee representation, as 14 out of 26 committees are being chaired by the opposition members."

"Thus, a civilized co-existence to preserve democratic traditions has been suggested," he summed up.

V.Lytvyn claimed that the opposition had no intention to pass the resolutions they put on agenda. "The conclusion is obvious: they are looking for pretexts to aggravate the political conflict," the Head of the Parliament stated. He said that the opposition took efforts "to reach the highest political degree in public life, and bring it to boil by October 31."

The Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine declared that the opposition that appealed to all the international institutions regarding crackdown on democracy in Ukraine was destroying parliamentarism and democracy with their own hands.

"My conclusion and predictions that political war is being stirred up in Ukraine seem to prove true," he summed up.
