On Thursday, Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, met Andrius Kubilius, Prime Minister of the Republic of Lithuania.
The meeting was held in the framework of the working visit of V.Lytvyn to Lithuania.
The Parties discussed the European prospects of the state and development of bilateral relations.
The Prime Minister stressed that his
country belonged to the informal association "the circle of friends of Ukraine."
He declared that the stand of Lithuania
regarding enlargement of the European Union and guarantees of the EU membership
to Ukraine
is consistent and invariable.
Mr Kubilius declared that Lithuania was willing to share its experience of accession to the European Union with Ukraine. He recommended compiling a strict schedule of consistent steps of Ukraine towards accession to the EU.
V.Lytvyn appreciated this idea, as "it will direct the energy to specific actions, not merely words, intentions and declarations."
The Head of the Parliament stressed that "the European prospects of Ukraine should be consolidated." "We need a beacon to show our goal," he stated. V.Lytvyn admitted that Ukraine should foster mutually beneficial partnership with Russia.
The Parties discussed further development of bilateral relations in the trade-economic, investment, energy and transport sectors, and in the agriculture.
The Parties suppose that development of inter-regional cooperation is an important factor in strengthening of the economic relations. 30 agreements on cooperation between the regions of Ukraine and Lithuania, and between the cities, districts and self-government agencies of the countries have been concluded, extending trade-economic collaboration.
V.Lytvyn calls for giving impetus to the humanitarian cooperation, as the countries have a great potential of collaboration in the intellectual domain.
The Parties discussed the situation caused by adoption of the Constitutional Court Resolution on non-compliance of the Law of Ukraine "On Amendments to the Constitution of Ukraine" of December 8, 2004 No2222-IV with the Constitution."
V.Lytvyn stated that stability had been
recently observed in Ukraine.
He informed about the
intentions to set up a constitutional commission to work upon the enhancement
of authorities.
Mr Kubilius stressed that the amendments to the Constitution should foster stability in the country and conform to the fundamental principles of the European constitutional models.
As it was reported, on 7-8 of October, Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, stays with the working visit in the Republic of Lithuania and takes part in the sitting of the Interparliamentary Assembly of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Senate of the Republic of Lithuania and Sejm of the Republic of Poland.
Pursuant to the schedule of visit, V. Lytvyn shall meet Dalia Grybauskaitė, President of the Republic of Lithuania, Irena Degutienė, Seimas Speaker of the Republic of Lithuania and Bogdan Borusewicz, Marshal of the Senate of the Republic of Poland.
The Ukrainian parliamentary delegation includes Borys Tarasiuk, Chairman of the European Integration Committee, Olha Bodnar, First Deputy Chairman of the Committee on State Building and Local Self-Government, Yaroslav Sukhyi, Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Social Policy and Labour, Olena Bondarenko, Chairman of the Sub-Committee of the Committee on Human Rights, National Minorities and International Relations, Dmytro Sviatash, Chairman of the Sub-Committee on the Committee on Taxation and Customs Policy, and Andrii Naidionov, Secretary of the Committee on Family Matters, Youth Policy, Sports and Tourism.
