Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, met Alexey Kudriavtsev, PABSEC Secretary General, to discuss participation of the Ukrainian parliamentary delegation in the 36th Plenary Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation in Trabzon (the Republic of Turkey) on November 3.

 

The Parties discussed organization matters concerning participation of the Ukrainian parliamentary delegation in the plenary session.

 

V.Lytvyn highly appreciated contribution of PABSEC into the development of the Black Sea region, laying emphasis on "significant work in the sectors of economy, environmental protection and international cooperation." He expects that Ukrainian chairmanship in the Assembly for the next half-year will be supported to achieve the set goals.

 

A. Kudriavtsev stated that the Black Sea Business Forum organized by the Turkish Industrialists and Businessmen Association would be held in Trabzon on 1-3 November. The aim of the Forum is to maintain business contacts between the businessmen of Turkey and BSEC member states.  

 

The agenda of the 36th Plenary Session includes report on the activity of the parliamentary organization for the past half-year, discussion of cultural and civilization issues onh the regional development, and human resources matters.

 

For reference: Established in 1993 as a parliamentary dimension of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC), the PABSEC has provided legislative and political support to the BSEC member states, with the focus on the multilateral economic cooperation.  

 

The Assembly strengthens parliamentary democracy, promotes cooperation, embraces the issues of democracy and rule of law, pluralistic society and free market economy, regional cooperation, harmonization of legislation and customs procedures, finance and banking, trade and business, foreign economic relations, prevention of double taxation, transport, communications, formation of a free trade zone in the Black Sea region, protection of the environment, combating organized crime and terrorism, protection of cultural heritage, education, prevention and liquidation of consequences of natural calamities and anthropogenic disasters.

 

The Parliamentary Assembly is composed of parliamentarians representing twelve BSEC Member States: Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Georgia, Greece, Republic of Moldova, Romania, the Russian Federation, Serbia, Turkey and Ukraine. The People´s Assembly of Egypt, the Knesset of the State of Israel, the National Council of the Slovak Republic and the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus have an observer status.

 

The President of the Assembly is the speaker of the parliament of a member country by rotation for a period of six months and acts as the highest representative of the Assembly.
