On Thursday, Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, visited Novohrad-Volynskyi Medical College

The Head of the Parliament sent his greetings to the personnel of this educational establishment on the beginning of a new academic year, and talked with the faculty and the students.

V.Lytvyn stated that this municipal establishment had been founded 20 years ago to improve medical care in the rural areas in Chornobyl zone. The students of the college usually come from the rural areas, and will return to their villages on graduation. Among 130 medical education establishments, Novohrad-Volynskyi Medical College is one of the leaders.

The Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine appreciates that teaching staff of the college "do not only share theoretical and practical knowledge, but also teach the art of life." He expressed his gratitude to the managers and teaching staff of the college for their dedicated work despite the fact that the average salary of the educational research staff member of the medical education establishment is lower than UAH 4 thousand. The Head of the Parliament deems necessary to change the situation, as "it is doctors and teachers who take care of the well-being of the country." "You may be an incompetent historian, engineer or geologist, but you can not be a bad doctor or teacher, as a human life is at stake," V.Lytvyn stated.

As to the innovations and changes in education, the Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine expressed for a sensible approach. He believes that the system of education should respond to the changes, while remaining conservative in a good sense. V.Lytvyn emphasized that education should be one of priorities of the state policy.

Addressing the students, the Head of the Parliament wished them persistence in their studies, as "it is not the degree certificate, but the knowledge that paves way for self-realization."

V.Lytvyn awarded the students and lecturers of the college with the Verkhovna Rada decorations. He also presented the establishment with paintings, a TV set, books and medical equipment to be installed in the district hospital, where the college students undertake an internship.
