On Thursday, Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, met Mrs. Berenice Rendon Talavera, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Mexican States to Ukraine.
The Parties confirmed the potential
of bilateral cooperation in the economic and humanitarian sectors, calling for promotion
of political dialogue.
"Ukraine attaches importance to the enhancement of relations between the countries and people", Mr Lytvyn stated. He expressed his hopes that the Ambassador´s work would foster cooperation between Ukraine and the United Mexican States. The Head of the Parliament stated that Ukraine if of interest for Mexico, and vice versa. "The distance shall not hamper cooperation", he stated.
Among the prospective areas of bilateral cooperation, Mr Lytvyn singled out aircraft building.
The Parties dwelled upon the promotion of inter-parliamentary cooperation. The Ambassador announced that a group for inter-parliamentary liaison with Ukraine had been set up in the Congress of the Union of the United Mexican States. She presented the list of its members to the Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
Mr Lytvyn stated that a group of friendship
had been set up in the Ukrainian Parliament a year ago. The Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine deems necessary to hold a meeting of the groups
to draft a cooperation plan. "The groups of friendship should be driving forces
in the development of Ukrainian-Mexican relations", he stressed.
Mr Lytvyn suggested that the leaders of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the Congress of Union exchange official visits.
