Mykola Tomenko: Private Construction in the Territory of Podilski Tovtry National Nature Park shall be suspended

 

Mykola Tomenko, Deputy Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, referred an appeal to the Prosecutor General with a request to verify legitimacy of allocating lands of the nature protection fund to the private establishments, and performing construction works in the territory of Podilski Tovtry National Nature Park in Khmelnytskyi region.

 

In his request, M.Tomenko stated that on 5 June 2010, environmental activists and park administrators raised the issue of the recent construction of cottages in the territory of the Natural Nature Park launched by the private establishments.  

 

Thus, Podilski Tovtry National Nature Park was established by the Decree of the President of Ukraine of 27.06.1996 to preserve, reproduce and use natural landscapes of Podillia region with its unique historical and cultural structures. Under the Law of Ukraine "On the National Program on Formation of the National Environmental Network of Ukraine for 2000-2015", the park belongs to the Podillia region of the National Environmental Network of Ukraine. In the framework of "7 Wonders of Ukraine" action, Podilski Tovtry National Nature Park was recognized as one of the seven natural wonders of Ukraine. Podilski Tovtry National Nature Park is a nature protection, recreational, cultural-education, scientific-research establishment of the national importance. Mineral water reserve and numerous species listed in the Red Book of Ukraine comprise a significant value of the recreational facilities of the National Nature Park.
