Joint committee hearings on child and youth recreation were held on Thursday at The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine under the chairmanship of Mykola Tomenko, Deputy Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. The hearings were organized by the Committee on Family Matters, Youth Policy, Sports and Tourism, the Committee on Science and Education and the Committee on Public Health.
Opening the committee hearings, M.Tomenko called on the attendants with a request to discuss and analyze the start of summer recreation season in Ukraine. He announced that the Parliament would listen to the reports on the child and youth recreation season.
Commenting upon the general issues in this field, M.Tomenko stated that quality of recreation, especially, nutrition and conditions of stay remained key problems of quality rest. M.Tomenko stressed that contents and cultural values advocated during the rest shall not be underestimated.
Referring to the tragedy on the Azov sea (six children and a child minder died), the Deputy Chairman reminded that the Ukrainian Law prohibited consumption of alcoholic beverages in public places.
M.Tomenko deems necessary to introduce a uniform state recreation system, while every ministry and department has their concept of this system.
The Deputy Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine calls for organizing a uniform register of recreation establishments for the public authorities to supervise the state of a child recreation institution, its conditions of stay, nutrition and events.
Adjourning the parliamentary hearings, M.Tomenko suggested that all the recommendations be referred to the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine "to enhance the child and youth recreation campaign."
