Adam Martyniuk: It is for the First Time in the Independence of Ukraine that the Authorities are consolidated

 

Adam Martyniuk, First Deputy Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, met Grigol Vashadze, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, in the framework of his official visit to Ukraine.

 

"The last 3-4 months are characterized by certain political stability in Ukraine. It is for the first time in the 19-year independence of our state", Adam Martyniuk, First Deputy Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, stated during the meeting.

 

According to the First Deputy Chairman, in conformity to the reforms suggested by President V.Yanukovych, the coalition political forces are unanimous with the Government in their common efforts to develop harmonized effective policy of sustainable development of the Ukrainian State. He also stressed that "Ukraine has a powerful opposition as well." A.Martyniuk believes that "if we further move towards the civilized democratic world, we should take positive criticism of the opposition forces."

 

During the meeting, the Parties discussed the priorities of bilateral relations between Ukraine and Georgia on the grounds of mutual respect for the development of respective states, especially in the post-crisis period, and confirmed the orientation towards integration of the countries into the international community.

 

The sides exchanged their opinions concerning foreign policy constituent of the Ukrainian-Georgian relations. Dwelling upon the European and Euro-Atlantic integration of Ukraine, A.Martyniuk stressed that these issues should be settled with account for the interest of Ukrainian nation and its will. The First Deputy Chairman implied that cooperation of Ukraine with the authoritative international organizations would be of pragmatic character.  

 

"The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted the fundamentals of foreign policy in the first reading.  The document is being adjusted to the second reading", A.Martyniuk stated and explained: "Ukraine declared its non-aligned status, but announced the willingness to cooperate with NATO and other politico-military alliances. The majority of Ukrainian citizens uphold the idea."  

 

A. Martyniuk highly appreciated the importance of legislative bodies of Ukraine and Georgia in the extension of the inter-governmental dialogue in the framework of both bilateral cooperation, and the international alliances.   

 

The Parties also dwelled upon the exchange of experience of holding national and local elections. In this context, A.Martyniuk stressed that he is positively surprised by the results of the latest elections to the local authority bodies in Georgia, where the ruling party gained an impressive victory.

 

 "Georgia considers Ukraine as a strategic partner and one of the main trade partners", the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia emphasized. He expressed his gratitude "to the Ukrainian people, the President, the Government and the Parliament for the sensible legitimate attitude of Ukraine towards territorial integrity and sovereignty of Georgia."

 

According to G. Vashadze, "the process of political class formation in Georgia has been completed", the politicians having understood that they should have a uniform stand in the development of their country by means of reforms. The opposition realized the importance of being powerful, while the people do not support street protests, as they are not effective. "Eradication of corruption and implementation of social and legal reforms have shaped the public choice", the Georgian diplomat stated.  

 

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia expressed his gratitude to A.Martyniuk for presenting a clear-cut political picture of the situation in Ukraine. He confirmed the will of the official Tbilisi to facilitate reforms and consolidation of democracy in Ukraine. He expects that democratic transformations in Ukraine will continue.

 

Vasyl Tsybenko, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to Georgia, and Grigol Katamadze, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to Ukraine, took part in the meeting.
