On Friday, Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, met PACE President Mevlüt Çavusoglu, in the framework of the European Conference of the Presidents of Parliaments

 

This meeting was the third one in 2010, and the Parties reached an agreement to hold another meeting during the visit of the PACE President to Kharkiv city on 23 August.

 

Mr Çavusoglu welcomed the action plan declared by the President of Ukraine. According to the PACE President, it should foster reforms in the country. "As the PACE President and your personal friend, I ensure you in my support of Ukraine´s development", Mr Çavusoglu stated.

 

The Parties discussed the state of implementation of Ukraine´s commitments to the Council of Europe. Mr Lytvyn declared that "not many tasks remain to be fulfilled." The Head of the Parliament stated that a clear-cut schedule of implementation shall be developed in the nearest time. He expects that its realization will lead Ukraine into the post-monitoring period.

 

Mr Çavusoglu stated that PACE admitted the progress of Ukraine in implementing the commitments. He declared that their full-fledged realization was not doubted.

 

The Parties also discussed the state of bilateral cooperation between Ukraine and Turkey. Mr Lytvyn briefed on his discussion of the Ukrainian-Turkish relations with the President and the Prime Minister of Ukraine. He stated: "We cherish great expectation and plans on this point."  

 

Mr Çavusoglu expects that visa regime between Turkey and Ukraine would be abolished during the visit of the Prime Minister of Turkey to Ukraine.
