On Friday, on the occasion of the World Book Day and Copyright, Mykola Tomenko, the Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine visited National Historic Library of Ukraine. "At the present moment a library it is not only book storage or a place for reading, moreover it is free of charge educational establishment. In this sense the role of library can not be overestimated", M. Tomenko declared during the meeting with library personnel.

In the course of the conversation with the library personnel, M. Tomenko emphasised that the National Historic Library of Ukraine has a precious depot of ancient books. "Unfortunately, the state has no definite policy regarding the preserving of the ancient books and positioning of Ukraine a country with old history of book publishing", he stated.

M. Tomenko greeted everyone with the holiday and expressed hope that "we will restore the significance of a book in the cultural history of our state and modern educational process."
