On Monday, M.V.Tomenko, Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, stays with a working visit in Poltava region. The Deputy Chairman will visit Hadiach Ivan Kotliarevskyi State College of Culture and M.Drahomanov secondary school to present the book "Mykhailo Drahomanoutobiography." Referring to the town of Hadiach, M.Tomenko stated: "This is the native town of Mykhailo Drahomanov, one of the prominent political figures with European outlook and founder of the Ukrainian school of political science." He is satisfied that the research carried out by him and his colleagues would find its place in the libraries of Hadiach and Poltava region.
Asked about the reforms of schooling, M. Tomenko stated that introduction of the 11-year education system seemed to be a compromise and the lesser evil for the parents, teachers and pupils.
Though, the Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine emphasised that he objected to an attempt to change the development of the education system and come back to a 12-year system. However, he believes that the concept of a 12-year system in Ukrainian variant is far from the normal European system. As an example the Deputy Chairman named the fact that they failed to prepare education system in the way to leave only special subjects for the pupils to choose during the last year at school. "Moreover, we faced psychological unreadiness of the parents and pupils who are going to stay in school till this age", M. Tomenko explained.
The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine called for further analyzing the educational system in school. However, he believes that an 11-year education system should be treated now like a certain compromise.
