Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine: Caring People are the Backbone of Ukraine
During the working visit to Sumy region on Saturday, Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of The
Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine,
visited the hematology department of Sumy Regional
Clinical Hospital
for Children, where children with oncological diseases are treated. He
inspected the conditions of their stay and spoke with the medical staff,
children and their parents.
Liana Nikitenko, Head of the Department, informed that the governmental funds cover only 20% of the costs necessary for medical treatment of the sick children. Everything else is covered by the charitable funds and parents of the sick children. For the last ten years, Vienna Charitable Fund purchased medicine for EUR 400 thousand, while another German fund purchased equipment for UAH 400 thousand. Sumy Regional Fund of Aid to the Children with Oncological Diseases is also assisting the department.
The Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine presented the children with gifts, passing the furniture and a mini system to the department.
Volodymyr Lytvyn stated: "All
public authority officials should come here to see the situation." "I
am ready to bend my knee before the mothers who demonstrate courage
and strong will, and before the doctors who see these children every day and
fight the disease, smiling and saying encouraging words at the same time. I am
grateful to the volunteers and charity providers who assist such medical
establishments. Such caring people are the backbone of Ukraine",
V.Lytvyn stated.
The Head of the Parliament stated
that the financial support of children´s
medical treatment should have no political bias; hence, "the resolution on
the allocation of necessary funds should be adopted."
