Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, stresses that any Amendments to the Constitution of Ukraine or Adoption of its New Version shall be ratified by the Parliament
In the interview to Livyi Bereh newspaper, V.Lytvyn stated that the referendum on amendments to the Constitution could be held, provided The Verkhovna Rada passed a corresponding final resolution.
The Head of the Parliament reminded that amending of the Fundamental Law exclusively via the referendum violates Chapter 13 of the Constitution. Moreover, V.Lytvyn declared that under the resolution of the Constitutional Court, the Parliament shall ratify the results of any constitutional referendum, granting them the status of the law.
