Mykola Tomenko, the Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine directed an appeal to the Prosecutor´s General Office with the request to investigate the situation regarding the opening of a restaurant and building of a terrace on the architectural monument of Cherkasy city.
In his appeal in particular M. Tomenko indicates that the Cherkasy city community and local mass media repeatedly made the point that the opening of the restaurant "Botticelli" in the building of historical monument is illegal and contradicts all the legislative norms. The building that is situated in Khreshchatyk Street in Cherkasy was constructed by the prominent architect Vladyslav Horodetskii in the end of XIX century and it belongs to the architectural monuments of the local significance and the regional communal property. M. Tomenko declared that in this building is the publishing office of newspaper "Cherkaskii Krai", memorial museum of eminent Ukrainian poet and public man Vasyl Symonenko who used to work in this newspaper and also regional organization of the Association of Journalists of Ukraine. Though last year the zero floor of the building appeared to be in the private property where "Botticelli" restaurant was opened.
The Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine stated that despite the fact the building is an architectural memorial and it is prohibited to make re-planning in it, the new owner managed to receive the license for re-planning and ordering of the adjoining territory, in the result, the inner wall in building were destroyed and one more entrance was done.
M. Tomenko explained that the biggest indignation of society and publishing office of the newspaper was called by the fact the colon of a terrace is situated close up to the newly created V. Symonenko bas-relief that was built before the 75th jubilee of the poet.
The Deputy Chairman also stated that for the construction of small architectural form in the buildings that are in the regional communal property according to the legislation it is necessary to receive relevant permissions that according to the mass media announcements have not been received. The Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine addressed the Prosecutor General with the appeal to investigate the situation taking into the consideration resonance of a case.
