The Committee on Freedom of Speech and Information heard the Information on Facts of Professional Activity of the journalists Obstruction and Censorship on the National Ukrainian Television Channels

In the
result of the discussion the Committee passed the appeal in which it was
expressed worry about "making public the information on pressure on journalists"
and stated that there are the facts
of the Ukrainian legislation violation in these cases.
The Committee resolved to address:
The President of Ukraine, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine with the demand to take all the necessary measures for the protection of the professional and citizens rights of the journalists;
the leaders of the television channels with the demand to present he official answers to the information regarding the pressure on the journalists and reject the persecution of the journalists for making the information public;
the journalist of Ukraine with the appeal to direct to the Committee the information on the facts of pressure and obstruction in the journalists activity;
the Prosecutor´s General Office with the demand to investigate the facts made public by the journalists;
the Ombudsperson in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine with the demand to investigate the situation in Ukrainian television channels;
the factions of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine with the proposition to accelerate the conduction of the parliamentary hearings on the facts of obstruction of the professional activity o the journalists and censorship in mass media.
The Committee recommended the National Council of Ukraine on Television and Radio Broadcasting Matters to conduct constant monitoring of the television and radio organizations.
The People´s Deputies also emphasised the necessity to elaborate the propositions regarding the introduction of the amendments to the Law "On Information" and otter effective legislative acts that specify the term "censorship" and "obstruction of the professional activity of the journalist."
