Mykola Tomenko: Memorial Estate of Mykola Kostomarov, Author of the Famous Book "Knyha Butiia Ukrainskoho Narodu" will appear in Ukraine in the Nearest Time

On occasion of the 125th anniversary of death of Mykola Kostomarov, prominent historian and literary critic, Mykola Tomenko, Deputy Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, and Valerii Dubil, People´s Deputy of Ukraine, visited the village of Didivtsi of Pryluky district to take part in the action "Mykola Kostomarov returns to Chernihiv Region" that aims at the restoration of the memorial estate of M.Kostomarov.

 

Dwelling upon the idea of building the said memorial estate, M.Tomenko stated that it is a paradox that the life and activity of a prominent historian, literary critic, public figure and co-founder of the Brotherhood of Saints Cyril and Methodius, is not fully represented in any of the museums.

 

Today, in the course of the official visit to Didivtsi, M. Tomenko took part in the presentation of the project of the Venerable Paraskevia of Serbia Church and consecration of Memorial Cross in the honor of the Church restoration. Moreover, M. Tomenko and V. Dubil planted chestnut tree near the place where central building of the memorial estate used to be.

 

The Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine expressed his content with the works performed to restore the memorial estate of M. Kostomarov.

 

Speaking on the personality of M. Kostomarov, the Deputy Chairman declared that among great number of his works, the "Knyha butiia Ukrainskoho Narodu" remains actual still as it used to be one of the main documents of Brotherhood of Saints Cyril and Methodius and it as a cause of exile for Taras Shevchenko, Mykola Kostomarov, Mykola Hulak and other prominent Ukrainian figures.
