Volodymyr Lytvyn, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine deems that one should stop opposing two events the Great Patriotic and the Second World War, as it is two notions of one event. He made this declaration in the course of the conversation with the journalists after the screening of Mykyta Mikhalkov film "Utomlenye Solntsem-2" in Kyiv on Sunday. "If there had been no Second World War, what happened then during the years 1939-1941? The Second World War took place in the history of the world though the most essential and determinant factor in this war was the Great Patriotic War. I do not understand those trying to cringe to someone and hence cross the line. I am convinced that war topic should no longer be politicized", V. Lytvyn declared.

Speaking on the impressions made by the film, the Head of the Ukrainian Parliament declared that "the more such films we see the biggest image of those dramatic times we have." According to him, these events are supposed to be scrutinized in different dimensions: it is a great tragedy, it is an immense heroism and a triumph of life over the death. V. Lytvyn is convinced that the memories on war should be preserved in the way they are perceived by an ordinary Soviet soldier Ukrainian, Russian, Uzbek, Kazakh and all those who gave their lives for the Victory.

Asked by the journalists on the necessity of Stalin monuments in Zaporizhia and other cities of Ukraine, V. Lytvyn expressed his thought: I suppose it should not be placed there. There is no need for it.
