On Thursday, Volodymyr Lytvyn,
Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, met the students of the
Medical Institute of Sumy State University, volunteers of the "Aid for the
Children with Oncological Illnesses" Charity Fund. The attendants of the meeting
discussed the prospects of the public health development, adoption of the law
on medical insurance, enhancement of social security of medical workers and
provision of adequate remuneration of their labour. V.Lytvyn believes that
physicians employed at the public medical institutions shall be granted the
status of public service employees. However, the corresponding Bill was
not supported by the People´s Deputies.
Professor Vitalii Markevych, Honoured Fund President and Director of the Medical
Institute of Sumy State University, and Valentyna Markevych,
Fund President and candidate of medical sciences, submitted a draft decree and
a package of documents on establishment of the Bone Marrow Transplant Center in
Ukraine.
"Establishment of this center would be a significant step towards preservation
of life of numerous children and adults suffering from the disease", - V.Markevych
stated. V.Lytvyn addressed the leaders and the volunteers of the charity fund:
"Since such concerned people as you and official statistics testify that the
problem of oncological diseases extends to the scope of national security, the
center shall be established and adequately funded".
The Head of the Ukrainian Parliament promised to address the newly-appointed Minister of Public Health with a request that the Ministry prepared the documents necessary for the resolution on establishment the Bone Marrow Transplant Center in Ukraine, the donor bank and the basis for medical treatment of people with oncological diseases. "Moreover, health assessment is necessary to obtain information about the public health and prevent the diseases", - V.Lytvyn stressed. He assured the participants of the meeting that he would call for increasing financing expenses for the public health.
As to the activity of the charity
funds on aid for the children with oncological diseases, the Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada
of Ukraine stated: "Since
the State neglects its obligations, such Funds are of utter importance.
Troubles unite people". "Ukraine
will have no prospects as the State, if public health is further ignored", -
V.Lytvyn stated.
