Mykola Tomenko: Ukraine will have a Civilized European Student Self-Government System
Mykola Tomenko, Deputy Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, met the students of the history department of Kirovohrad State Pedagogical University. He stated that the President had signed the Law on the student self-government, which would provide for the development of a civilized European student self-government system in the higher education establishments of Ukraine. This system will not only confer extra authorities to the students, but also make them responsible for their education establishments.
M.Tomenko briefed on the upcoming reforms in the education system. He supposes it is a mistake that the Party of Regions and the Communist Party failed to uphold the Bill on external independent testing. "The idea of testing is apparently good, but is requires fundamental enhancement. It is this Bill, rejected by The Verkhovna Rada, that took into account the average grade of the school leaving certificate, and envisaged responsibility for different kinds of violations", - the Deputy Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine stated.
"At present, the testing is not cancelled, but it far from assessing the pupils´ knowledge adequately. The Parliament and the new President shall address the question of testing system enhancement", - M.Tomenko stated.
